The Energy Cascade from Warm Dark Matter Decays

We use a set of Monte Carlo simulations to follow the cascade produced by a primary electron of energy Ein in the intergalactic medium. We choose Ein = 3 − 10 keV as expected from the decay of one of the most popular Warm Dark Matter (WDM) candidates, sterile neutrinos. Our simulation takes into account processes previously neglected such as free-free interactions with ions and recombinations a...

Warm Dark Matter Model of Galaxy Formation

Cold Dark Matter (CDM) models of galaxy formation had been remarkably successful to explain a number of observations in the past decade. However, with both the theoretical modeling and the observations being improved, CDM models have been very recently shown to have excessive clustering on the sub-galactic scale. Here I discuss a solution, based on our high-resolution numerical simulations, to ...

Massive sterile neutrinos as warm Dark Matter

We show that massive sterile neutrinos mixed with the ordinary ones may be produced in the early universe in the right amount to be natural warm dark matter particles. Their mass should be below 40 keV and the corresponding mixing angles sin22θ > 10−11 for mixing with νμ or ντ , while mixing with νe is slightly stronger bounded with mass less than 30 keV.

Decaying warm dark matter and neutrino masses.

Neutrino masses may arise from spontaneous breaking of ungauged lepton number. Because of quantum gravity effects the associated Goldstone boson - the majoron - will pick up a mass. We determine the lifetime and mass required by cosmic microwave background observations so that the massive majoron provides the observed dark matter of the Universe. The majoron decaying dark matter scenario fits n...

Gravitino Warm Dark Matter with Entropy Production

Gravitinos with a mass in the keV range are an interesting candidate for warm dark matter. Recent measurements of the matter density of the universe and of cosmic structures at the dwarf galaxy scale rule out the simplest gravitino models with thermal freeze–out. We construct a model where the decay of the messenger particles that transmit the supersymmetry breaking to the observable sector gen...
